i How to Form the Future Tense

For regular verbs, add the endings directly to the infinitive — all three verb groups (-AR, -ER, -IR) share the same endings.

The Endings:
Yo -é · Tú -ás · Él/Ella -á · Nosotros -emos · Vosotros -éis · Ellos -án
All endings except "nosotros" carry a written accent mark.

Example (Hablar): Yo hablaré · tú hablarás · él hablará · nosotros hablaremos · vosotros hablaréis · ellos hablarán.

! Verbos Irregulares — Irregular Stems

The endings are the same — only the stem (raíz) changes. Learn them in 3 groups:

1 Exercise 1: Conjugation Practice

A. Transform the present tense into the future tense.

Nosotros viajamos en tren. ➔ Nosotros en tren.
Yo voy a España. ➔ Yo a España.
Juan compra gasolina. ➔ Juan gasolina.

B. Complete with the correct irregular future form.

(Yo) voy a hacer todo para ayudarte. ➔ (Yo) todo para ayudarte.
Vamos a poder disfrutar de la final. ➔ Nosotros disfrutar de la final.
Paulina va a poner el dinero en tu bolsa. ➔ Paulina el dinero en tu bolsa.
Ya sé que no van a venir los demás. ➔ Ya sé que no los demás.

i When to Use Which?

Many learners think it's about time — that "ir a" is for tomorrow and the future simple is for next year. This is a myth! The real difference is about intention and certainty, not the calendar.

Ir a + Infinitivo

Use for plans and solid intentions — a decision that has already been made. "En 2040 me voy a jubilar." (solid personal plan) "Mañana voy a ir al médico." (appointment confirmed)

Futuro Simple

Use for predictions, promises and especially probability in the present. "Mañana lloverá." (weather forecast) "Te querré siempre." (solemn romantic promise)

Futuro de Probabilidad — The most common use in daily speech!
When you don't know the exact answer to a present question, use the future tense to make a guess or supposition about what is happening right now.

¿Dónde está María? → Estará en la cafetería. (She's probably in the cafeteria.)
¿Qué hora es? → No sé, serán las cinco. (It must be around five.)

Someone asks a question about the present, but you don't know the exact answer. Guess using the future simple!

¿Dónde está Juan? No lo sé, (estar) en su oficina trabajando.
¿Qué hora es? No tengo reloj, pero (ser) las diez de la noche.
María no contesta el teléfono. (Tener) mucho trabajo ahora mismo.
¿Quién llama a la puerta a esta hora? (Ser) el cartero con un paquete.

3 Exercise 3: Intentions vs. Predictions

Choose the most natural option based on the context clues in parentheses.

(You look at dark clouds in the sky) Creo que (lloverá / va a llover) esta tarde.
(You tell a friend about your booked vacation) El próximo verano nosotros (vamos a viajar / viajaremos) a España.
(A solemn romantic promise) Te lo prometo, te (amaré / voy a amar) toda la vida.
(You already bought the cinema ticket) Esta tarde (voy a ver / veré) una película.
