Today we are going to learn how to talk about our family. We will learn new vocabulary and review the Present Simple tense, the verbs Ser / Estar and Hay, Demonstratives (this/that), and Adverbs of Frequency.
Let's look at the basic family members. In Spanish, nouns are masculine (El) or feminine (La).
Grammar Tip: In Spanish, the masculine plural is used for mixed groups (males and females together).
Now let's learn the extended family and how to describe relationships using the verb ESTAR (to be).
Example: "Mi tía está casada con mi tío."
Remember these rules before we start practicing. You've got this!
Use SER for physical descriptions and relationships.
"Mi madre es alta", "Él es mi primo".
Use ESTAR for marital status or locations.
"Mi tío está casado", "Ellos están en casa".
Use it to express existence (never changes for plural/singular).
Placed in the sentence to say how often you do things:
Read the sentences carefully and fill in the blanks with the correct family member in Spanish.
Look at the monster family! Complete the sentences using the correct demonstrative (este, esta, ese, esa, aquel, aquella) based on the distance, and the verb SER.
Conjugate the verb in parentheses in the Present Simple tense. Then, place the frequency adverb in the correct logical place.
